American Artist Appreciation Month

In honor of Artist Appreciation Month, I'm teaming up with Patience Brewster and am sharing one of my favorite artists, Albert Bierstadt. Patience is an artist herself and creates whimsical Christmas ornaments.

Bierstadt was a 19th century landscape painter who created epic works featuring the American West. Here are a few of his paintings:

My Plein Air Painting Setup

I built this using an aluminum clipboard mounted onto a tripod. I drilled a hole through the bottom for the tripod mount. It's held open to the desired position with picture wire and a clip, and the water container on the side is held in place by another clip. It works great and is very stable.

Red Squirrel ACEO

Sold
red squirrel ACEO painting
Here is a new acrylic painting- ACEO/trading card size (2.5x3.5).
I painted this on Canson toned paper. I think that in a lot of ways, this paper is the ideal painting surface for these small acrylic wildlife paintings. I just really like how it accepts the paint and how well it works with both washes and layers of thicker paint.

Rainbow

rainbow oil painting
It's been a while, but hopefully you will enjoy this new painting. This is a first- I've never painted a rainbow before. Although for me, this was more about the clouds and trees. Those elements are much more interesting to paint.

A Pair of Pears

Sold

pears oil painting
Well, finally- here is a new oil painting. It's been a while, I know- sorry to all the oil lovers! I hope you enjoy it and hopefully it's been worth the wait. I'll have to check the archives to see when I last posted an actual oil painting. It's been nice getting back to some still life painting. I have some landscape and wildlife oils in the works as well.
