I've had this toned Canson paper sitting in the studio forever- several sheets of it in fact- and thought it would be a good paper to use for these wildlife drawings. The black and white charcoal and Venetian red pencil on toned paper is a technique I've been wanting to explore. It's usually used for drawings of humans, but works well with animals too.

I'll probably be trying my hand at wildlife painting, so look out for a lion painting in oil. I'll be painting that and other paintings larger, most likely. I'm thinking about painting the lion on 9" x 12" canvas panel. A new flower painting in time for Mother's Day.

This is an acrylic painting on watercolor paper, a combination I have really been enjoying. It's an effective combination, I think, since you can paint directly on the nicely textured surface without gessoing. When painting with oils on paper, you always have to gesso or seal the surface with acrylic matte medium. If you don't, the oil will absorb into the paper and rot it.
